The thing I love most about selling my magnetic paper dolls has been that with every order there is a story.  Almost every customer has messaged me, telling me a bit about the child they are buying the doll for, the reason for choosing a particular outfit, what the response was when they opened their present or how much they are enjoying playing with them.
Last week a letter arrived for me in the mail. It was a birthday card from an 11 year old girl named Kirsty.
Kirsty is the most enthusiastic customer I have.  She has ordered several of my dolls and clothes sets, emailed me with suggestions for future sets and even won my last naming competition!
I don't get a lot of "real" mail these days, so it was exciting to get a letter that wasn't a bill!
The first thing that fell out of the envelope was this, bringing a big smile to my face:

Next I found a lovely card.
The message inside read as follows.
"Dear Amaria,
I wanted to send you this... It was pretty hard to make!
Here is about her:
Here is Lydia.  She is 13 years old and her favourite colour is purple. she loves cats and is in grade 7 at school.  Her best friend's name is Linda and they're cousins.
You will find the doll and some clothes in the envelope.
lots of love from Kirsty."

Sure enough, with the card I had found these:

I was so happy with this special gift, Kirsty!  I was smiling for a long time afterwards, and will treasure it!

Featuring a Fellow-seller: Falling Star Lane

After I started selling on Etsy I realised I could join a support team, and the first team I found was teamCAC (Christian Artists and Craftsmen).  I did indeed find support and help there with my shop- but also friends!
Recently we had a "Secret Sibling" gift exchange.  participants were allocated another team member to keep in their thoughts and prayers and to bless with a gift.  Mine came from Cory, of http://fallingstarlane.etsy.com/
It is always so exciting to open a parcel.  Inside this one I found not just one, but several items!
Among them this small box:

I always like to read the card first, so I put the box aside and took some time to admire the one included in this package.  It was one of Cory's own creations:

As I was looking at it... and not at my daughter... I heard a little voice saying, "Mum, look! This is just lovely!"  Miss 5 always prefers to open the presents first, leaving the cards till later- and this time she'd helped me with mine!  This is what she found:

The stones in this tastefully made bracelet represent our family's birthstones: opals for October, emeralds for May and diamonds for April.
As if that wasn't enough, there was a set of handmade notecards and a bookmark included in the package as well!  Here's the little treasure-trove in its entirety!  (The book I already had !)

So who is the lovely lady who had been so kind to me?
Here's what she says in her own words (taken from her shop profile!):

Welcome to my Etsy shop!
This is a dream come true for me, I am so excited to share my creations with you!

About the [shop] name:
Have You ever wished upon a Falling Star? That one star that fell, just for you? Didn't it fill you with a just a little bit of a thrill, a little bit of a hope? Well, that's the point, isn't it? To bless and be blessed, to love and be loved.
Honestly, I saw a street sign, and all I could think of was "What an amazing place to shop!" There wasn't one, so now there is.

A little bit about me
I am a true paper, bead, fabric, and craft addict, and I started selling my crafts to support my habit! ♥
I love to play! As a kid, crafts were my thing, but unlike a lot of kids, I've kept it up as I've grown up. Heaven help me (and my family) if I learn to do something new!
I am mother of 5 children, ages 15 - 28, and Grandma to one wonderful, super special cutest boy in the whole world! ♥ No Biases here! ☺ I have been married to my best friend and sweetheart for 22 years.

Enough about me, I hope to hear from you!

Thank you for viewing my shop, http://fallingstarlane.etsy.com/ I hope it will bless you as you look for something to enrich your life and the lives of those around you! ♫
Wishes granted (well, we’ll try!), smiles cherished, harmony valued here. ☺
Dream Happy,

♥ Cory

Twee Poppets Review and Giveaway

Sometimes on Etsy you run into such friendly people! Here's another example.
I received an email today from the author of Twee Poppets Review an Giveaways to say that she had written a piece on my magnetic dress-up dolls.
Not long after I'd opened my shop, she had won a giveaway I'd hosted on another blog and asked if she could write this review for me. It was such a boost to my confidence as I tried to get my shop up and running!  Instead of asking for more samples, she offered to review the dolls she'd already won. I sent a full set anyway.
After testing them on a number of pre-schoolers, here is what she wrote:

(I'm hosting a giveaway with this review, too- so you might like to enter!)

Congratulations to...

Cory of http://www.etsy.com/shop/FallingStarLane whose suggested names will be used for my newest set of magnetic paper dolls.
There were many great choices, and it was not an easy decision- I could easily have compiled a combined list from all of the suggestions, but Cory's list won because I liked all the names and felt they suited the dolls.
So here are the names, as chosen by Cory:

Timmy    Tammy   Daniel     Shirah     Micah     Ruth

Scrapbooking Giveaway Winner

Congratulations to Leslie of http://lesliepjackson.blogspot.com/ who won my scrapbooking giveaway.
It looks as though she can make good use of it, too.  here's what she had to say about her scrapbooking:

"I only started scrapping in Oct. 2008. Just before Christmas 2009, I totally finished my daughter's 1st book.... from the first ultrasound picture until her 1st birthday!

I have started on her 2nd book....day after 1st bday to 2nd bday, but I haven't been able to locate all the pics I need, so I stopped. I know...silly reason.

However.... my daughter will be SEVEN (7) in August, so I have some catching up to do. At least now, when I take pics, I think..."That would look good like (insert idea from my head) in her scrapbook." So I scrap as I snap now--at least in my head!"

Better to give than to receive.

Before reading on, please have a look at this: http://www.amkreations.blogspot.com/

There is more to this story.
I had had my suspicions as to whether Liz had included herself in the Secret Sibling when she had forgotten to send me details of who mine was until after the others had already been allocated.
So when my own gift turned out to be from Liz, I wasn't really surprised- but I was vey pleased!
Not only did I receive one of her beautiful hand made baskets, but it was filled with goodies, including my favourite dark chocolates, a "clean linen" scented candle, and was decorated with a spray of my favourite spring flowers- apple blossom!

When I convo'd her to say thank you, she replied saying that it was partly from Anita (author of the above blog and my secret sibling) -who had sold her the lovely blue and gold fabric (my favourite colour combination!)  That being so, the gift I in turn gave to Anita was in part from Liz, too!  Not being sure of how long it would take to get to the US, I had arranged to send it to Liz, who would forward it in time.  She refused to let me pay the additional postage, saying that was all part of the fun! To top it all off- Her gift to me had to be mailed to Australia, and the postage costs were far from cheap.  Some would have chosen a smaller, flatter parcel to send, because of the cost of shipping, but not Liz!

God will bless you, Liz.

"Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you mete with it shall be measured to you again."  Luke 6:38

I was cleaning out the cupboards in my workroom when I came across a box I'd forgotten I had!  It contained several things I had left from the days when I was a Creative Memories consultant.  "What to do with these?" I thought... and then it came to me.  Use them for a blog giveaway!

Etsy Encouragement

I recently found I had some time to start making things again, and a friend recommended Etsy as a place where I might be able to find buyers.
So I opened shop in the hope of making some money. I haven't yet, but I have been amazed at blessings and encouragement I have received! That has been so much more wonderful than succeeding in a business sense!

Last night I spent a bit of time among the Critique and Promotion forums, where I met Handspun Handmaiden in several of the threads.

I hearted her shop, (http://www.etsy.com/shop/HomespunHandmaiden )
discovered her very edifying blog, http://guardedheart-grace.blogspot.com/  and convo'd her in response to a comment she left in the forums.

"Therefore all things whatever you would that men should do to you, do you even so to them..." Matthew 7:12

And the Winner is...

Thank you to all who have supported me in getting my blog off the ground!

My First Giveaway- and a bit of self promotion!

I'd like to help other crafters promote their wares through this site, but what point is there in promoting without an audience?  I need followers!

So here's how it works.
  1. Tell someone else about my blog and encourage them to join.- (if they join you get 1 point)
  2. Follow my blog.
  3. Leave a comment after this post, telling who you heard about me from.
  4. Go to my etsy shop and have a look around http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=40745291
  5. Leave a comment with your favourite listing (just copy the URL from the address bar when you have the listing open)
  6. Repeat step 1 as often as you like!
You get one point for each of the above.  The promothion will end two weeks from now ie 6:25 pm Australian EST on Thursday 22nd April 2010  (or 4:25 am EST  onWednesday 21st April in the US), the winner being the person with the most points.  In the case of a tie, the winner will be drawn randomly from a hat (or ice cream container or some other receptacle!)

Oh, yes!  I nearly forgot to mention the PRIZE: the choice of any two items from my shop (excluding custom orders).

In Progress...

If you've come for a visit... sorry, there's nothing here yet.
My aim is to see if I can help some fellow crafters promote their stuff, but I will get things organised when I have a bit more time.   I'll need some more followers, too- no use promoting something without an audience!
Meanwhile, why don't you visit my main blog and get to know me a bit better.  I'd love to hear your comments, too!
